Since I live in Arizona, it is very dry here. I end up using it all year round. In the summer its used to cool the house down and the winter to add humidity to the air since its on the extreme side of dry. When the manufacture states 350 sq ft, they mean it.Since it does hold a lot of water it can be a pain to fill so I use a hose from my laundry sink. If you don't have one you can use a fish water siphon in reverse direction. There is a meter that tells you how much water is in the unit (Min - Max). It's just a float connected to a piece of plastic pushing the meter up. FYI if the unit is empty or very low, the float can tend to get stuck and end up overfilling the unit because it will still say Min when its full. Based on the features, cost and reviews, the KuulAire PACKA50 seemed to be the best choice. Honestly, a true air conditioner would provide a sure solution to a heat problem but in addition to costing around 50% more than air coolers, with true air conditioners, you must run an exhaust duct from the portable unit to the outside. The only option for doing that in the living room area of my home would require spending an additional $150 plus for a 'pet door' attachment to the sliding glass door.The KuulAire PACKA50 arrived earlier than the estimated delivery date. Simply take it out of the box, add water and plug it in. The unit has a pretty strong fan and seemed to work well. I followed the maintenance provided in the operational manual, and the cooling unit stopped working. At the advice of the seller, I checked the fuse, which wasn't the problem. The seller then suggest that their store mail me a circuit board and I replace it. I disagree with having to repair new electrical appliances myself. Notice, I did leave the seller a good feedback, being that the product arrived on time and worked reasonably well the first couple of weeks. The seller agreed to a refund, being that a number of the cooling units manufactured were defective. Save yourself the worry and time of having to endure the heat while resolving issues with this unit!
